Introduction to Direct Entry

A file-based channel to submit high-volume domestic credit and debit payment instructions

What is Direct Entry?

Direct Entry, managed by the Australian Payments Network (AusPayNet), can be utilised as a file-based channel for submitting Australian domestic credit and debit payment instructions in bulk. A single fixed-width ASCII file (the industry-standard ABA format) is exchanged securely with CommBank via CommBiz Automated (SFTP), with no manual uploads or downloads.

It’s designed for organisations that run recurring, high-volume payment batches as part of their operational and financial workflows, automating the end-to-end flow from file generation through to processing and reconciliation.

Common use cases

  • Payroll – pay employees and contractors in a single scheduled file run
  • Supplier & vendor payments – settle accounts payable and remittances in bulk
  • Direct debits – collect recurring customer or member payments (available on application)
  • Super & dividend distributions – distribute superannuation and shareholder dividends
