Introduction to International Money Transfer

Send cross-border payments in foreign currencies.

What is International Money Transfer

An International Money Transfer (IMT) is a cross-border payment that sends funds in a foreign currency to a beneficiary account held overseas. Payments are routed to the beneficiary bank using its SWIFT BIC, optionally via an intermediary bank. You can specify the amount in the beneficiary's bank account currency or pay an equivalent amount using a negotiated CBA foreign exchange (dealer) rate. Each transaction is a single debit and single credit and can be combined with Priority Payments and Non-CBA Payment Requests in the same import file.

Common use cases

  • Paying overseas suppliers and vendors for imported goods or services
  • Settling foreign-currency invoices to international beneficiaries
  • Making cross-border payments at a pre-negotiated FX dealer rate
  • Sending funds to EU beneficiaries using an IBAN and SWIFT BIC
